About Holzwelt Murau
The goal of Holzwelt Murau is to become the first energy-autonomous district in Austria by 2015. Thanks to persistently pursuing the goals the region has set itself for sustainable regional development on the way to a climate and energy model region, representative results and implementations can already be presented.
Furthermore, Murau has the highest amount of daily sunshine and is the most densley-wooded district in Styria. Alongside solar and wood, water and wind are highly significant ressources in the field of alternative and renewable energy. By increasing the regional biomass fraction and the associated reduction of the heating oil needs an immediate additional regional value of several million euros could be achieved.
Holzwelt Murau establishes itself as climate and energy model region and is on the best way to master the energy transition on its own. Over the years, the region, consisting of 34 communities, accomplished many milestones throughout the whole process.
The focus as Holzwelt (World of timber) offers the potential to use many synergies in the fields of energy and climate and to provide competence particularly because the region possesses solid and substantial fundaments concerning both thematic complexes to enable strong endogenous development.
